How to fill out a W-4

  1. Download the current W-4 from irs.gov, then choose it here.
  2. Click each box to type your name, address and Social Security number.
  3. Use ✔ to tick your filing status and fill in any steps that apply to you.
  4. Click Sign and Date in Step 5, then press Download PDF.

Who do I give my W-4 to?

Your employer. Do not send it to the IRS.

Do I need to fill in every step?

Steps 1 and 5 are required. Steps 2 to 4 only apply to some people; the form explains each one.

Are my files private?
